Security Engineer
UNIVERSAL Technologies is seeking a Security Engineer for an onsite role in Brooklyn, New York. Candidates with an active LinkedIn account are preferred.
Position: The Security Engineer will participate in the implementation of security controls for a Public Safety ESINET and NENA-compliant NG911 system. The role requires designing, integrating, and managing security platforms to ensure compliance with established standards and governance models. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in security engineering, project management, and implementing security solutions for critical infrastructure.

SCOPE OF SERVICES:
As a Security Engineer, your responsibilities include:
Implementing security controls in a Public Safety ESINET and NENA-compliant NG911 system.
Ensuring security controls for Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) comply with established standards.
Developing security configurations and best practices while reviewing vendor designs for compliance.
Managing test cases and identifying risks associated with system integrations.
Working with vendors to integrate security platforms into Public Safety infrastructure.
Troubleshooting level 3 security-related issues.
Configuring IDS/IPS security policies, DNS security policies, and assessing Active Directory security roles.
Examining and ensuring the accuracy of firewall policies.
Leading resolution of security incidents and providing expertise in security platform engineering.
MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Note: Candidates who do not have the mandatory skills will not be considered.
Minimum of 12 years of security engineering experience.
Strong network security and project management experience.
Proven ability to lead projects.
Compliance experience, specifically HIPAA, is highly desirable.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
Experience utilizing security frameworks like NIST and MITRE.
Strong knowledge of security management tools for troubleshooting (e.g., Wireshark, NetBrain, ExtraHop, NetWitness).
Strong Identity and Access Management background.
Experience with DNS configuration and performing security risk assessments.
Knowledge of VPN technologies, resilient designs for high availability, and IPS/IDS design.
Familiarity with Next Generation Firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet, Forcepoint).
Ability to create reports using Key Risk Indicators (KRI) and Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Understanding of SIP security design and implementation for Voice/Video and Data.
Knowledge of firewall policies and application security.
Experience auditing or assessing data network security and application security designs.
